Crawford vs Spence Could Happen After His Fight Against Khan
Crawford vs Spence Is Possible
Terence Crawford, the WBO Welterweight Champion says a unification fight could happen against Errol Spence Jr. if his promoter Bob Arum could make it happen. Crawford is going to fight Ami Khan (33-4, 20) on April 20 but Crawford is looking forward to a much bigger fight. Against the #1 Errol Spence.
Crawford Focusing On Khan Fight
Crawford is currently focusing on the Khan fight. Because he wants to get the change to take on Spence, he really needs to beat Khan first. Crawford- Spence fight is not that easy because they both fight on different networks. Eroll is with Premier Boxing Champions and his fights go on Showtime and Fox. While Crawford is with To Rank and his fights are on ESPN. If Crawford vs Spence did happen, their networks will have to agree on sharing a PPV like HBO & Showtime did for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao fight in 2015
“Of course it is makeable. I believe it would be the biggest fight in the welterweight division,”
“But like you said, I have this fight against Amir Khan. After the fight, we can talk about Errol Spence and Al Haymon and Top Rank doing business together. But right now, I am not even thinking or worried about Errol Spence.”
Spence & Crawford Has Same Fighting Style
Spence and Crawford have a lot common in terms of fighting. They both fight in very similar way. The way spence took Mickey Garcia in his last fight. It showed us that h e and Crawford and indeed very much alike. This fighting style is not very exciting for the fans though. In the whole fight against Garcia, Spence really came at him in the 9th round when he started throwing hard punches at him. If Spence kept on fighting like that, the referee of Mikey’s trainer would have stopped the fight. Spence can definitely fight like Crawford but he considers it boring. So, Spence can fight Crawford the way he does or go really hard at him if their fight ever happened.
Both Fighters Needs To Prove Themselves
All of this seems really exciting but it’s a little two early for Spence and Crawford to face each other. Spence has to win WBA and WBC Welterweight titles by beating Manny Pacquiao, Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman. After that he can think about taking on Crawford,.
The Spence fight will be bigger by that time, and the boxing public will get a good idea whether Crawford is the real thing or a product of hype the way some fans think he is when they look at his weak resume.
Crawford also needs to take on some young guys instead of fighter older guys because he has been doing this for the past couple of years. Even if he beats Khan, he still has a lot of fighter like Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Jessie Vargas, Giovanni Santillan, Rashidi Ellis, Diego Ramirez, Kudratillo Abdukakhorov and Luis Collazo lined up to beat before he can go at Spence. Terence is considered as one of the best P4P fighters at the moment but that too against some quite old boxers. He is yet to prove himself against the younger fighters.
“Right now, our total focus is on Amir Khan,” McIntyre said. “Bob is doing his thing, trying to make the fight happen. So, hey, let Bob do his thing and let us do our thing and when the fight is done we’ll sit down with Bob and hopefully the other guys will come to the table.”
At the moment, Crawford just needs to focus on the Khan fight but his manager McIntyre really needs to match him up with some good young fighters in their prime. Because in today’s world its possible to make such matches that would help the fighter in maintaining a perfect unbeaten record. Unbeaten record only matters if you have beaten the best.
