Mikey Garcia says that he would love to fight Lomachenko
Aftermath of Mikey vs Errol
After losing to Errol Spence Jr (25-0, 21 KOs) , Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs) says he would like to fight WBA/WBO Lightweight Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (12-1, 9 KOs) provided he moves down to 135lb Weight Class
Mikey lost to Errol in the 12th round by a unanimous decision. He moved up two weight classes to from lightweight to welterweight to fight spence but didn’t realize that doesn’t have the size to take on Errol. He was no match to the long range of Errol Spence Jr.
Why Garcia Lost?
Even though they had the same weight, Errol had an advantage since his weight is pure muscle unlike Mikey. Who had to put on extra fat to get this fight.
Garcia’s Future Plan
Mikey is not sure if would want to move back to lightweight. He plans on discussing it with hi father and brother.
“I would love to fight with Lomachenko, but I haven’t my decision to come back down to 135 just yet,” Garcia said after the fight.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to sit back with my brother and my dad, and figure out what division I’m going to come down. Maybe I stay at 147 or come down to 135. But at 135, that is the most interesting fight against Lomachenko, and I would love to take on that fight,” Garcia said.
Could Garcia vs Lomachenko Happen?
Garcia has talked about fighting Lomachenko before. He has been talking about it for years but the fight never happened.
The former WBA Champion Anthony Crolla (34-6-3, 13 KOs) will be taking on Lomachenko next month for his title
Garcia On His Fight Against Errol
“I showed a lot of heart, and now people respect me a lot more for the way I fought, and for going up against the best, and I can say I fought well,” Garcia said.
“I tried, I fought hard. At one point my brother mentioned, ‘Maybe it’s time to call it a night.’ He didn’t want to see me get hit, and my dad also, but I wasn’t hurt any point like that. I got hit. It’s boxing. I got hit with a couple of shots,” Garcia said.
The boxing fans respect Garcia for staying in the match for 12 rounds which a lot of people though won’t be possible for him.
Options for Garcia At Weltermeight
Garcia’s options if he stays at welterweight are as follows:
– Manny Pacquiao
– Keith Thurman
– Shawn Porter
– Terence Crawford
– Amir Khan
– Danny Garcia
Who Should He Fight?
Probably the best fight for Garcia would be Manny but he might not be able to get that fight because of his loss against spence.
“I felt like I could land one punch and maybe turn it around. Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way I wanted,” Garcia said.
Mikey told Robert not to stop the fight and that is a good thing. There is a huge difference in fighting for 12 rounds and pulling out between the rounds.
