Munguia Says He Is Ready To Fight GGG
Jaime Munguia Wants GGG Fight
Jaime Munguia says he is ready to fight GGG and thinks that their fight is possible since they are both with DAZN now. Jamie thinks that he has never been this ready to face GGG as he is now.
Munguia vs Dennis on April 13
WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Munguia (32-0, 26 KOs) will be defending his title against Dennis Hogan (28-1-1, 7 KOs) on April 13. It is not a great fight but he will have way better opportunities after winning it.
“Yes, we would be interested in that fight with GGG now that he is on DAZN,” Munguia said about the Golovkin fight.
“It would be a good fight for us and for the people. One year ago it couldn’t happen, but now obviously it’s a possibility, and if a year ago I felt ready, now I feel even more ready. So with pleasure we would accept the fight,”
Mungia Is Ready For GGG
Munguia will be moving to middleweight after this fight. He will obviously earn more there but it will also be more difficult for him there. But he is young right now. At the age of 22 he knows he can make it. And has a lot of time to face fighter like GGG and Canelo etc.
But by the time that happens there might be more young and talented boxers ready to take on them. He will have to prove himself in the middleweight. He became the WBO champion by beating Sadam Ali by a fourth-round knockout. We doubt that Munguia would have beaten a more talented champion like Jarrett Hurd, Jermell Charlo or Erislandy Lara. Some fans consider him as a paper champion since he didn’t beat the best to become the champion.
History of Mungia vs GGG
Mungia was being considered to fight GGG an year ago but then the fight was dropped because Munguia had no experience in middle weight before and he lacked the experience to take on GGG. Vanes Martirosyan was then given the fight but he was knocked out by GGG in the second round. GGG was supposed to face Saul Canelo in a rematch on 5th May but he was tested positive for using performance enhancement drugs. But the fans think if Mungia was given that fight las year, he would have given GGG a hard time and even knocked him out eventually.
“I have the mentality of going forward and always feeling that I will get my hand raised in victory, so I feel I would have won, but nobody really knows what would have happened,”
Munguia said when asked if he thinks he would have beaten Golovkin last year if the two had fought.
“Right now I’m focused on the fight that I have on April 13th, but after that with pleasure we would take this fight [with GGG].”
Munguia vs GGG Is Unlikely To Happen
Golovin might not be matched with Munguia because his promoters are interested hi getting the Canelo fight. They should be trying to get him the GGG fight but they are probably afraid putting the inexperienced Munguia against Golovin. He is 37 and still fighting strong. But they might match Munguia with GGG when he is probably 39.
It would be just like how Golden Boy waited a whole year to let GGG fight Canelo. Their fight should have had happened in 2017.
“There are plans. There are plans to have this fight, but first we have to go through this fight,”
Munguia’s trainer Robert Alcazar said about a fight between Jaime and GGG.
“It will be one of those future fights. Of course you would like to have the biggest fights out there, and if GGG is the next fight, then it’s the next fight. The decision is up to the promoter.”
But even if Munguia didn’t get to fight GGG, there are still a lot of talented boxer in DAZN like Daniel Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade once he moves up to 160 lb weight class.
